Djenne, called the ‘jewel of the Niger,’ was founded in 8th century by the Songhai people. Situated in the heart of the inner delta of the Niger River, within the vastness of the Sahara Desert, Djenne and Tombouctou were the towns of the greatest commercial, intellectual and Islamic importance, during the period of 12th through the 19th century. The beautiful mud mosque surrounds the flowing grace of the Imam descending the main staircase. In the religious equation that embraces dogma, architecture and man, it is man that is most transient and always in motion.

‘seek your journey’s beginning and end...’
Brian A. Vikander
Brian A. Vikander’s photographic artistry flows from the inner side of the human equation. Through his visuals we come upon an evocative side of humanity, to which we all innately relate, for we recognize our human similarities and rejoice in them. He is one of a diminishing breed of individuals who continue to seek out our globe’s most unusual corners. For the past 30 years, a professional photographer, travel writer and explorer, he has been recording the ever-changing world.
The purpose of his journey is to change the state of being in the soul, to awaken sensitivity to the feelings of others, to reveal the unity underlying our own nature and refresh through the integration of our capacity for insight, understanding and joy. His photographs are storehouses of spiritual energy and they transmit this energy according to the quality of attention that we bring to them. The effects of this energy can be described as happiness, awareness, tranquility, or a willing surrender of our private concerns to a universal experience.
Vikander, while completing Master’s work in Sociology/Psychology, is self-trained and self-taught, in the discipline of photography. Untrammeled by the boundaries imposed by photographic educators, he has unceasingly sought to apply a personal vision, which has always allowed his photographic perception to stand apart. The design of his imagery is to create faithful, visually realistic and arresting impressions, from the other’s perspective.
The 30 year chronicle of his photographic virtuosity has been seen in virtually every domestic and international publication that deals with the exotic inclination of our globe, including: National Geographic, Paris Match and German GEO. As a photo-journalist, he has completed assignments to over 100 countries, on 6 continents. He has: 1) traced the footsteps of Genghis Khan from Mongolia through Central Asia; 2) followed the integration of culture across the Sahara Desert into West Africa; and 3) traveled along the untrammeled portions of the ancient Silk Road.
Additionally, over the past 29 years, Brian has offered unique photographic travel excursions to inquisitive travelers. He has conducted more than 70 photo tours, to over 80 countries, on 6 continents. Brian knows destination, the requirements of travelers and has the ability to teach personal artistry. Presently, he conducts one or two exclusive trips per calendar year.

photographic prints
Over the past 30 years, museums, sovereign nations, academic institutions, major corporations and private collectors have coveted the photographic endeavors of Brian Vikander. Since the start of his career and to this day, all of Brian Vikander’s Limited Edition, Fine Art Photography is created on film. Therefore, the image is a moment extant in time and his discerning creativity is established along that narrow line we call present, between that which was and that which might be, ie. past and future.
Each of Brian Vikander’s prints is produced in a very Limited Edition, generally ranging from one to ten prints. Only four of his most globally, celebrated photographs, to date, have been created in larger editions and those images are within three to five prints of being sold out. Once a Limited Edition print run has been completed, there will be no more prints made under any circumstance. All of of his currently available prints can viewed on his personal WEB site www.SavantClair.com .
When a collector purchases a print, the print is created to Mr. Vikander’s exacting specifications, personally signed, corner matted on archival board and shrink-wrapped, so that the print can be shipped flat and damage free. Additionally, each print is accompanied by a booklet which includes the following materials: 1) a personal letter from Mr. Vikander; 2) the Artist’s Statement; 3) Mr. Vikander’s Biography; 4) the individual photographic description; 5) separate paperwork indicating the Limited Edition number and value of the photographic print for insurance purposes; 6) Mr. Vikander’s CV; and 7) several tearsheets of Mr. Vikander’s creative endeavors.
Every image printed by Mr. Vikander’s staff is guaranteed to have been created through the most archival processes available. The combination of archival printing, archival matting and framing and museum glass make the prints as archival as anything in the art marketplace (oil painting, acrylic, watercolors, etc.). Additionally, many collectors find the framing process to be cumbersome and daunting. Mr. Vikander’s award-winning framer can assist you in this effort as well. Many collector’s prefer to have the print framed and shipped to them in this fashion. We can, also, make lighting recommendations if need be. These services are provided to the collector at no additional cost, however, any ‘tangible’ costs are obviously to be born by the collector. Simply put, since our staff has been supporting Mr. Vikander’s one-person exhibitions for many years, we know and understand how to best support and service the collector.
