Vanishing Icons, a portfolio in book form, is a compilation of photographs taken by North Carolina photographer Rick Smith. The images captured over a thirty year period and throughout more than 17 states and 3 countries are dramatic depictions of weathered barns, farmhouses, farm equipment, landscapes and many more rustic subjects of the rural countryside.

Rick says that the photographs are a silent witness to a fading rural landscape. Many of the buildings no longer exist due to decay or rural development. These structures are true works of art created by the hands of man and nature.
